i'm developing outlook 2010 add-in processing on incoming messages imap account. need able modify message locally without syncing underlying account. way, user sees modifications locally (both in explorer view , when message opened) if login web or machine, original message still there.

i have no problem performing changes need can't figure out way changes not persisted server. i'm wondering if there no_sync flag or way tell outlook ignore these processed messages when syncing?

one solutions i've tried don't particularly includes making re-create of message , moving processed 1 local folder. don't because it's not user experience having deal multiple "inboxes" plus there logic involved making sure same message not processed twice, etc. i've tried hooking syncstart doesn't seem works either.

so possible alter displayed , not actual message? require form region?

if have custom form, can display want.

but messages in explorer (where outlook lists folder messages), shows saved messages.

there no flag tell outlook not sync message server.
